About Kabi Lungchok
Kabi Lungchok, located description 17 km north of Gangtok along the North Sikkim Highway near Phodong, is a site of great historical and cultural importance in Sikkim. Nestled amid lush forests, it marks the place where, in the 13th century, the Lepcha chief Thekong Tek and Tibetan prince Khye Bumsa sealed the historic "Treaty of Blood Brotherhood." This solemn pact symbolized the peaceful coexistence and unity between the Lepcha and Bhutia communities, foundational to Sikkim’s multicultural identity. The treaty was ceremonially sealed by placing their feet in a vessel filled with animal blood and erecting a stone pillar. Today, visitors can see life-size statues of the key figures commemorating this event. The site is particularly vibrant during the Sekhiuk Puja and Pang Lhabsol festivals, where traditional rituals celebrate the enduring friendship and cultural heritage of the region. Kabi Lungchok offers visitors a unique window into Sikkim’s history, culture, and natural beauty.
