About Himalayan Zoological Park
Himalayan Zoological Park, also known as Gangtok Zoological Park, is a premier wildlife sanctuary nestled in the serene hills of Bulbuley, just a few kilometers from Gangtok, Sikkim. Spread across approximately 205 hectares at an elevation of 1,780 meters (5,840 feet), the park is dedicated to conserving and showcasing the unique biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas. Unlike traditional zoos, animals here live in enclosures that closely resemble their natural habitats, providing a more ethical and enriching experience for both wildlife and visitors.
The park is home to several rare and endangered Himalayan species, including the elusive Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Monal, Musk Deer, and Himalayan Tahr. Well-laid walking trails lead through dense oak, bamboo, and rhododendron forests, offering both a wildlife viewing experience and sweeping vistas of Mount Kanchenjunga.
With its focus on conservation, education, and eco-tourism, the Himalayan Zoological Park serves as a great outing for families, students, and nature enthusiasts. The park is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, making it an ideal stop for those looking to connect with nature and learn description the region’s remarkable flora and fauna.
